Color Throwdown #693

 

It's time once again for a new Color Throwdown challenge! Broni is hosting and has some awesome colors for us: aqua, lime green and navy! I'm smitten with that gorgeous top that inspired these colors.

I just received some newly released goodies from Reverse Confetti and decided to build up my birthday card stash for the littles.

That cover plate die has such beautiful texture and the Circle of Waves die set is so fun to inlay different colors. Options are endless!

Freshly Made Sketches

I love playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge which pushes me to create a CAS design. This week's sketch was perfect to use the adorable bee with the fun sentiment from Reverse Confetti's new release. It has lots of images for little ones and I needed some new ideas for the grands.

I colored with Copics and added Clear Star Gelly Roll pen highlights to the wings.

Fusion Card Challenge - At the Movies

It's time again for another Fusion Card Challenge! I used the sketch (in a flipped version) and was inspired by the movie theme of the photo. I went wayyy back into my stamping stash to when I was a guest designer for The Cat's Pajamas in January 2016. I used their stamp set "Just Let It Happen" and paired it with a brass filmstrip stencil. 

I colored the image with Copics and highlighted the necklace with a Clear Star Gelly Roll pen. The popcorn was highlighted with a white Gelly Roll pen.

Color Throwdown #692

 

Happy hump day crafty friends! It's time for another Color Throwdown challenge and the colors are pink, lavender and gold. I not only went with the colors, but was inspired by the photo to use this awesome butterfly from Papertrey Ink's Flying By stamp set. I heat embossed in gold then added distress ink colors: Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Milled Lavender and Dusty Concord.

 

I smooshed the distress inks onto watercolor paper for the base layer behind the Cover Plate: Decorative Circles. I then layered the largest frame die from the Pierced Feature Frames die set. The card base is Lilac Grace card stock (all products from Papertrey Ink).

The Great Cover Up

I'm on the Papertrey Ink blog today for the newest Great Cover-Up challenge! We are highlighting black and white with a pop of color so you know I didn't blink before choosing the newest Into the Bloom set of tulip dies.

Here is the process for creating my card...

I have a really large scrap/leftover pile and I try to whittle it down each time I create. I chose three different black and white patterned papers and added a trio of blocks to cover the background.

The tulip dies can be somewhat overwhelming until you organize them into rows with the pieces lined up in the order of assembly. Call me OCD but this step is really helpful!

I like to cut out all my floral pieces from white card stock (Bristol Smooth Surface is my choice when I’m going to color blend). I use blending brushes combined with sponge daubers to add a touch of color to a small area. I added a hint of Pale Peony and Summer Sunrise inks to give more depth to some of the petals. I used New Leaf and Ripe Avocado for the leaves and highlighted with some Lemon Tart ink. If you examine leaves in real life, you will often find a yellowish hint with the greens.

 

Now it’s time for arranging the florals!

 

Next comes the finishing touches: a white embossed sentiment tag with brad and twine and rain drop embellishments. Popping up some of the tulip petals and the sentiment tag also adds depth and dimension.

Color Throwdown #691

Are you ready for some awesome new colors? Amy Rysavy is hosting the new Color Throwdown challenge and I'm really loving the colors: watermelon, mint green, light yellow, navy! I decided it was time to get out my Copics and color this sweet image from My Favorite Things when I saw one of the colors was called 'watermelon'. I CASEd a card I created in July of 2019 and switched up the layout and some of the dies.

I color blended the background using Mowed Lawn, Cracked Pistachio, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, Festive Berries distress inks. I added some seeds from the watermelon slice die set.

Freshly Made Sketches

 

There's an awesome sketch for the Freshly Made Sketches #533 challenge by Jen B and this rainy Sunday afternoon was perfect to play along! I'm loving the new Captivating Cattails set just released by Papertrey Ink and thought this would be perfect for the sketch. The patterned paper strips are from Lawn Fawn's Flower Market 6x6" pack.
