Color Throwdown #772

Happy hump day! It's time for a new Color Throwdown challenge with Kelly Schirmer hosting. She has chosen cobalt blue, aqua and gold. I went with shades of those colors using distress inks on the different trees. Two of them were gold embossed along with the star. The background is an alcohol ink panel of Yupo paper from my leftover stash.

STAMPS: Peaceful Forest (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Versamark; Tumbled Glass, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, Prize Ribbon, Mermaid Lagoon distress ink; Alcohol inks.
PAPER: Bristol Smooth Surface, Yupo.
DIES: Peaceful Forest, Winter Globes (PTI); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).
OTHER:  Gold embossing powder.

Only one more CTD challenge next week then the team will take a brief holiday break. Hope to see you in the gallery!   ~Wanda

Tags as Focal Points

Good Tuesday everyone! Awhile back, I created these tags which I opted to use as focal points on cards rather than have them trashed as soon as the gifts were opened. The base on the first card was color blended with distress oxide inks (Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron...I think...didn't write them down so am not 100% sure). I love embellishing with bells though it creates too much bulk to mail. Instead, these are hand delivered to members in our church family.

I recently purchased a really fun paper pack from Papertrey Ink called Stamping Simply Black & White All Over. It is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" which fits an A2 size card perfectly! I love the hand drawn look of the frame! Dies and stamps are all from Papertrey Ink.

That's a wrap for today! Hope you are having a wonderful week!  ~Wanda

The Paper Players

Good Monday morning! It's an overcast day here in VA and I've been doing laundry, putting tags on wrapped gifts, emptying dishwasher...you know...all those fun things in a day! I checked out the new challenges and was happy to see The Paper Players had a theme challenge going on! Jaydee chose Christmas as the theme so I went with a simple navy and gold card using Papertrey Ink products.

The base panel was foiled with holographic gold foil, then layered with a hot foiled sentiment over a glittery gold die cut. Easy peasy!

No stamps or ink used.
PAPER: Enchanted Evening (Papertrey Ink); Glitter Gold; Hammermill 100# Premium Color Copy Cover ordered from Amazon (my choice for hot foiling).
DIES: Merry Christmas, Border Bling: Diamonds (Papertrey Ink).
OTHER: Holographic foil; Peace on Earth hot foil plate (PTI).

Have a great week! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!  ~Wanda

Ornament Opulence

Tina Smith is one of my card making idols!  She has very helpful tutorials and creative designs and I was recently inspired to CASE one of her designs using PTI's Ornament Opulence stamp/die set. You can see her blog post HERE which includes a link to her YouTube channel. I changed the layout to a horizontal orientation and placed my ornaments over the Snowflake Fun Frame. I also used a different sentiment - a die from the Winter Globes set. I am entering this into the Tic Tac Toe Challenge designed by Rosanne and have included pearls, 2-step stamping and embossing.

I white embossed the designs on the ornaments and used Tina's idea to add shading in the flowers with Copic markers. It really adds a great dimensional detail!

STAMPS: Ornament Opulence (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky, Honey Nut, Dark Chocolate, Ripe Avocado (PTI); Versamark.
PAPER: Enchanted Evening, White, Metallic Gold.
DIES: Snowflake Fun Frame, Winter Globes, Ornament Opulence.
OTHER: White embossing powder; Moonshine sequins; Copic markers: B99, B45.

Traditional Christmas

Hello everyone! It's Thursday already and I'm posting a card for the Try It On Tuesday challenge which is to create a traditional Christmas card. I love pairing up green and gold along with snowy white for what I consider a traditional color theme.

I had the alcohol ink panel, snow drifts and trees in my leftover stash, so this came together very quickly. I added some die cut houses, fence and the sentiment and popped up the panel on a layer of foam.

PAPER: Yupo; White; Metallic Gold.
DIES: Home for the Holidays, Winter Globes (Papertrey Ink); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).

Thanks for stopping by! Time to get back to addressing my cards for mailing.  ~Wanda

Color Throwdown #771

Welcome crafty friends to a new Color Throwdown challenge! This week Amy Rysavy is hosting with the colors blue, green, and peach. I went to a favorite stencil from PTI called Berry Branches as a starting point. To add a hint of blue to the background, I stenciled tiny dots using one stencil from the A Little Sketchy set.

I then added two layers - one vellum and one white - using the new Love to Layer: Deckled Edge dies. Next came the Fancy Snowflake Frame die topped off with my favorite sentiment from the newly released Vintage Holiday Flair stamp/die set from PTI.

I colored in the sentiment using a peach-colored Prismacolor pencil then embellished with moonshine sequins. I like that these sequins from PTI are flat and do not have holes in them.

STAMPS: Vintage Holiday Flair (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Versafine Clair Nocturne; Honey Nut (PTI); Peach Fuzz, Apricot, Clementine, Persimmon, Citron, Bay Leaf, Spanish Moss, Ocean Breeze (Pinkfresh Studio).
PAPER: White; Pool (The Foiled Fox); Vellum (PTI).
DIES: Love to Layer: Deckled Edge, Vintage Holiday Flair, Fancy Snowflake Frame (PTI); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).
OTHER: Berry Branches and A Little Wispy stencils (PTI); Moonshine sequins (PTI); Prismacolor pencil.

The Paper Players

Another Christmas card completed using the sketch for the current Paper Players Challenge. The diagonal element is a piece of alcohol ink blending on Yupo paper. The snowman is the larger of two in PTI's Simply Snowmen set. The diagonal striped panel in turquoise is the newest hot foil plate from PTI. Die cut snowflakes are from Layered Snowflakes: Drift, Crystal, Flurries die sets and from the Snowflake Fun Frame.

STAMPS: Simply Snowmen (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Rocky Slope, Licorice, Waterfall, Turquoise (Pinkfresh Studio); True Black, Pure Poppy, Green Parakeet, New Leaf, Sweet Blush, Orange Zest (PTI).
PAPER: White, Yupo, Glitter white.
DIES: Love to Layer: Rectangles, Simply Snowmen, Layered Snowflakes (PTI); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).
OTHER: Diagonal Stripes hot foil plate, Turquoise foil.

That's all for now...thanks for stopping by!  ~Wanda

Time Out Challenges

Good Tuesday everyone! It's a bitter cold and very windy day here in VA! I had to brave the cold to go to my physical therapy appointment this morning (postop knee replacement surgery). I'm now trying to finish up my Christmas cards and have one to post for the current Time Out Challenges which has a Winter/Holiday theme.

I started with the Buffalo Plaid stencil in black and white for the background. I really love these evergreen dies from the November release at Papertrey Ink and apparently others liked it as well as I see they are currently sold out. I opted to add the tiny snow drifts with coarse glitter then topped it off with some jute twine.

STAMPS: None.
INK: True Black (PTI); Bundled Sage, Rustic Wilderness distress inks.
PAPER: White, Pure Poppy (PTI).
DIES: Into the Blooms: Evergreen, Love to Layer: Ovals, Border Bling: Joy Frame (Papertrey Ink).
OTHER: Buffalo Plaid Stencil (PTI); Coarse glitter (Martha Stewart); Jute twine.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are staying warm in your corner of the world!  ~Wanda

PTI November Release Day #3

Welcome to day # 3 of reveals for the November release at Papertrey Ink! Today, we are introducing you to Hear the Bells stamps and dies + Winter Greetings stamps and dies. A Cheery Tree Stencils is part of the release but there's been a delay in the manufacturing company so it will not be available until later.

While browsing through patterned papers, I came across this background by BoBunny and thought it would be a perfect fit.

The bells were cut from a matte metallic gold paper then the details were embossed with silver powder.

STAMPS: Hear the Bells.
INK: Pure Poppy, Scarlet Jewel, Ocean Tides, Pinefeather; Rocky Slope, Metropolis; Versafine Clair Nocturne; Versamark.
PAPER: Father Christmas Collection 6x6" pad (BoBunny); Matte metallic gold; Vintage Cream, White.
DIES: Hear the Bells, Love to Layer: Deckled Edge; Border Bling: Postage Frames.
OTHER: Silver embossing powder.

Next, I have two cards using the Winter Greetings stamp/die set. I love when there are coordinating dies to cut out the larger sentiments!

TIPS
1. Carry out the snow theme with a variety of sizes and paper textures in the snowflakes.
2. Pop up the snowman and sentiment with foam tape to add dimension.
3. Stencil a dotted background to mimic snowfall.

STAMPS: Winter Greetings, Simply Snowmen.
INK: Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron distress; Versafine Clair Nocturne; Dark Chocolate, Orange Zest, Green Parakeet, New Leaf, Sweet Blush; Misty Coast, Rocky Slope.
PAPER: White, Metallic Gold, Glitter Gold.
DIES: Layered Snowflakes (Drift, Crystal, Flurries), Winter Greetings, Simply Snowmen.
OTHER: Bubble Layering stencil; Slimline die.

I went with non-traditional colors on this winter card. Raspberry Fizz and Melon Berry are not my usual "go to" snow-themed colors.

TIPS:
1.  Create a sunburst pattern in the background using coordinating colors.
2. Add texture with twine and moonshine sequins.
3. Think outside the box with non-traditional colors such as Raspberry Fizz and Melon Berry.

STAMPS: Winter Greetings.
INK: Raspberry Fizz, Melon Berry.
PAPER: White, Sweet Blush, Beautiful Beads (pink and orange mix).
DIES: Snowflake Banners, Love to Layer: Scalloped Circles, Layered Snowflakes (Drift, Crystal, Flurries).
OTHER: Stitched rectangle dies.
