You're My Type!

Oh my...what was I waiting for?! I've had this set from SugarPea Designs for a couple of months and never even opened the package. Weather is gradually warming but ever so windy so I'm staying inside nursing cold symptoms and decided to play. This typewriter is so adorable and I decided to go with a mini slimline design using dies from Gina K Designs' Master Layout 08.

I have tons of birthdays with friends and family in April so this card will cover one of many. Aqua and red are always a fun combo for me and could go with either gender.

I couldn't stop with just one card, so decided to join in the Seize the Birthday challenge where we are challenged to "stripe it up".

While everything was out on my desk from the first card, I quickly made a second card with identical typewriter colors but different layout.

I used the Mini Slimline Essential Bundle from Pinkfresh Studio on this one along with strips from Gina K Designs Master Layouts 08 die set. I really prefer mini slimline above regular slimline cards.

Fusion Card Challenge

It's time for a new Fusion Card Challenge and I decided to go with both the sketch plus inspiration from the cloth bunnies in the photo! I flipped the orientation of the sketch to a horizontal position.

This was such a quick and easy CAS card which is a rare occasion for me. It involved all die cuts except for the sentiment which is from the Just Sentiments: Easter set by Papertrey Ink.

STAMPS: Just Sentiments: Easter (PTI).
INK: True Black (PTI).
PAPER: White, Hawaiian Shores, Green Parakeet, Bitty Big: Harvest Gold (PTI); Snap! Color Vibe 6x6" pad by Simple Stories.

We'd love to have you join us in this challenge! See you in the gallery!  ~Wanda

Color Throwdown #686

Another Wednesday means another Color Throwdown challenge is up and running! This week, Lisa is hosting and has chosen purple, sage green and cream for our colors. I love the Into the Bloom die series at Papertrey Ink and decided to feature the pansies on my card!

I wanted to use the new Berry Branches stencil set for the background in soft colors using Milled Lavender and Bundled Sage distress inks. The berries were stamped using the same color though it looks darker with the highlight step. Branches were stamped with Classic Kraft dye ink. I layered the Picket Fence die which was sponged with some Fine Linen dye ink.

Instead of grounding the pansies with a pot or other ground cover, I wanted to have it look like they were peeking through the fence while growing on the back side. I colored them with three shades of purple: Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord and Milled Lavender. The leaves were a mix of Bundled Sage and Shabby Shutters distress inks and the flower center was Mustard Seed. Splatters were added with Dusty Concord.

STAMPS: Effortless Beauties (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Dusty Concord, Shaded Lilac, Milled Lavender, Bindled Sage, Shabby Shutters, Mustard Seed distress inks; Fine Linen, True Black dye inks by PTI.
PAPER: Vintage Cream (PTI), Bristol Smooth Surface (Strathmore).
DIES: Picket Fence, Into the Blooms: Pansies, Effortless Beauties (Papertrey Ink).
OTHER: Berry Branches stencils (PTI).

We would love to have you play along with us at Color Throwdown! Happy stamping!  ~Wanda

Dahlias Have the Blues

I'm playing along with a new (to me) challenge called Make My Monday where we are currently challenged to use a stencil. I love stencils...especially for backgrounds! I wanted to try out some distress glaze so I sponged Versamark ink though the dotted stencil then heat embossed Salvaged Patina distress glaze. It differs from regular embossing powder by adding a shiny finish. I struggled with getting the shine to show up better in the photos.

I smooshed 3 different shades of green distress inks - Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness - onto my glass mat them dabbed the leaves into the colors. I used a brush to color the floral layers with Salvaged Patina then splattered Peacock Feathers and some Permanent White Gouache. I nearly covered up the majority of my stenciled dots but there are a few peeking out.

STAMPS: Say It Essentials (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness, More Mustard, Peacock Feathers distress inks; Dark Chocolate, Summer Sunrise dye inks by PTI.
PAPER: Bristol Smooth Surface; Dark Chocolate (PTI).
DIES: Into the Blooms: Dahlias, Sweet Celerration, Skinny Frames: Diagonal Border (PTI).
OTHER: Dots stencil (PTI); Salvaged Patina distress glaze.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm babysitting two of the grands this week while they are on spring break. It's cold yet again today and I'm wondering what happened to the few spring days we had earlier in the month. It will have to be inside play day since all 3 of us are fighting allergies/cold symptoms. Have a great day!  ~Wanda

PTI Release Day

The time is finally here after four days of reveals! Tonight at 10 pm ET, you can purchase the new release from Papertrey Ink.

I wanted to create a simple card with very little fuss because we all have those days when time doesn't alway allow for lots and lots of details. The tin stitch border die was cut from white and adds such a great bit of texture to a card. I then layered a scalloped striped panel then had fun filling up this watering can. When I want a small sentiment that doesn't cover much space, I often go to a previously released set - Effortless Beauties - for the solution! Some Stickles to the edges of the tulips and a twine bow finish it off.

STAMPS: Totally Tulips, Vase Collection 8, Effortless Beauties (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky, Enchanted Evening, Mint Julep, New Leaf, Soft Stone, Weathervane (PTI).
PAPER: Bitty Big: Mint Julep, White (PTI).
DIES: Vase Collection 8, Totally Tulips, Border Bling: Tin Stitch, Love to Layer: Scalloped Circles, Mix & Mat: Scallops
OTHER: Crystal Stickles.

Happy shopping and happy stamping!  ~Wanda

PTI Day #4 Reveals

It's the last day of reveals for the March release at Papertrey Ink! New items will be available for purchase tomorrow night (March 25th) at 10pm ET. Today, we are introducing you to  Dahlias stamp set and dies + Dahlias Stencils + Feathered Friends 21 dies.

I love this new dahlia set and kept my design very simple! I stamped only one step of the flowers in Prize Ribbon and Twisted Citron distress inks then softened the look with a layer of vellum on top.

I cut 3 layers of the sentiment (two from white and one from blue) and offset the colors slightly. My only embellishment was using rain drops. There is a stencil that also comes with this stamp/die set which has two overlaying extra large dahlias. I will have this stencil used on my card for release day.

STAMPS: Dahlias
INK: Prize Ribbon, Twisted Citron distress inks
PAPER: White, Vellum, Brilliant Blue
DIES: Pierced Feature Frames, Floral Breeze Accessories
OTHER: Rain drop embellishments

Next up is the newest bird in the Feathered Friends die series. I totally chose his colors from this new patterned paper pack - Watercolor Wonder - that was on sale recently at PTI.

As usual, I die cut all the bird parts from Bristol Smooth Surface paper and color blended with PTI inks. The embossed areas were highlighted with Prismacolor pencils. The florals were stamped and highlighted with some Crystal Stickles.

Isn't this a great sentiment?! I love that PTI has so many unique sentiments in their collection.

STAMPS: Posies & Sprigs, Just Sentiments: Quotes
INK: Sweet Blush, Melon Berry, Harvest Gold, Aqua Mist, Ocean Tides, True Black; Versamark
PAPER: Watercolor Wonder patterned paper, Ocean Tides, White, Vellum; Bristol Smooth Surface
DIES: Feathered Friends 21, Posies & Sprigs

Color Throwdown #685

Hello friends! It's time for a new Color Throwdown challenge and this week it's orange, green and kraft. The photo inspired me to head straight to the Spring Carrots die set recently released at Papertrey Ink. I never thought I'd enjoy carrots for a card but these layered dies are just too cute!

I color blended some Tumbled Glass distress ink then splattered with Peacock Feathers for a background then added a picket fence die. I tucked some of the carrots into this awesome bucket stamp/die that is part of the Vase Collection at PTI.
