MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

I wanted to play with the My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch challenge so I could use this ornament die shape that I got last year and never used! It was perfect for one of the doggy images with the punny sentiment from MFT's Deck the Howls stamp set.  The plaid panel was cut using MFT's Blueprint 27 die set. The Pinpoint Shaker Ornament die is from Poppystamps.

The patterned paper is from Lawn Fawn's Perfectly Plaid Christmas 6x6" pack. Images were colored with Copics.

Deck The Howls

This is one of my favorite animal Christmas sets - Deck The Howls by My Favorite Things - and is especially suited for our daughter who is a big dog lover and a lover of puns! I'm playing along with the 30 Day Coloring Challenge on Kathy Racoosin's blog and colored with Copics after stamping images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on X-Press It Blending Card.

I'm also playing along with My Favorite Things Wednesday

. Patterned papers are from Carta Bella's So This Is Christmas 6x6" pad. The stitched circles and stitched banner flag are dies by MFT. The shine and dimension didn't show up in the photograph, but I added Glossy Accents to the string of lights and to the ornaments or jingle bells on the collar of the top dog. I also like to add an occasional highlight with a white gel pen to add a little definition.

That's all for today! I'm enjoying some football games as I'm in my craft room. Holding my breath that Virginia Tech can hold the lead for a win over Notre Dame! Go Hokies!     ~Wanda

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

This was a quick one for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge this week. I already had the leftover leaves from a previous watercoloring session, so I only cut new circles and the background papers. The sentiment was stamped twice using my MISTI with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and is from the Ornate Leaves stamp set by Simon Says Stamp.

Nurse ---> Hero

I finally inked up this stamp set after having it several weeks! The MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge had an interesting striped lower half which I chose to interpret by using washi tape. I then tried to match up the colors with Copics (used to color the images).  Unfortunately, I smeared some residual black ink that was on my piercing tool that I also use to burnish the fold line. Grrr...My sand eraser helped some, but it's still too noticeable.

STAMPS: Call the Shots (My Favorite Things).
PAPER: X-Press It Blending Card, Smooth White (MFT).
INK: Memento Tuxedo Black.
DIES: Call the Shots (MFT); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (MFT).

Our granddaughter, Matilda, turns three today! She is such a sweet, smart and nurturing child and I hope she has a wonderful celebration with family at the beach today!

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

A quick post for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge! This was a fun layout and led me to this older retired MFT set called Primitive Pumpkins! I've always loved this set though I wish I had used Vintage Cream cardstock rather than Smooth White. I stamped the images with my MISTI and used Carved Pumpkin distress oxide ink and Memento Tuxedo Black. I used SU's Old Olive ink for the tendrils.

Well, I'm done with babysitting our 3 year old grandson for the past 4 days. While I loved having him, it is a FULL time job to keep up with him!  I've been happy that I saved some of our 3 kids' old toys because now the grands are enjoying these toys (Micromachines, pogs, etc.).  One day was rainy, so raiding nana's closet for toys from the previous generation helped to fill the day. :-) Outdoors he loved collecting acorns and with all our huge oak trees everywhere, there were plenty to be found!

Aren't those dimples just the cutest?! His most favorite activity was cruising all over our property with the golf cart with nana at the helm!

MFTWSC

Another humid scorching day means no outdoor work for me! Bring on more card making instead! I created this card for the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge. I didn't have the exact dies to mimic the four squares, so went with the closest option and that was to use my Blueprints #27 set.

I cut out multiple sets of leaves late last night and watercolored with distress oxide inks. After they dried, they were much paler than I wanted so I dabbed on some paints from my
Mijello Mission palette and then I was happy! I splattered some Vintage Photo ink after I completed the main colors.
I found this photo on Pinterest that helped me mimic the colors in my leaves. I had a messy and grand old time adding colors and splattering!  TIP: Wear old clothes for this project! I got a "nice" red spot of paint on my pants which then turned into a larger pink spot after trying to remove it.  :-(

I wanted to try a subtle script background, so broke out a new 3D embossing folder by SU called Scripty. After embossing on Vintage Cream CS, I lightly sponged Sahara Sand (SU) ink over it.  The sentiment was gold embossed on dark brown CS.

STAMPS: Anything But Basic Encouragement (MFT).
PAPER: Vintage Cream (PTI); Early Espresso (SU); Watercolor (Ranger).
INK: Many shades of distress oxide inks!
DIES: Blueprint 27 (MFT); Falling Leaves (MFT).

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

I'm getting into fall mode with some of my cards and was happy to be able to use these Falling Leaves dies for the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge. It was fun to use Mijello Mission watercolor paints on water color paper to color the leaves. I then added a light black splatter using a distress marker and a "spitter" tool. The kraft tag was stencilled with Crumb Cake ink and MFT's English Brick Wall stencil.

The sentiment is one of 18 from Taylored Expressions' new "Simple Strips - Friendship" set.

Thanks for stopping by! It's been a grueling week without water for several days! We had to replace all our pipes due to the materials deteriorating that were used when we did a major remodel in 1993. Ugh! Today should be the last day for the plumber's presence!

This week's Wednesday Sketch Challenge on the My Favorite Things blog was perfect for me to create another mermazing card! With 3 grand-daughters, I'm thinking I'll get a lot of mileage from this fun stamp set! Especially with all of them loving the beach so much.

I went with a shaker card for a more fun element and color blended the background with distress oxide inks: Peacock Feathers, Tumbled Glass and Cracked Pistachio. I colored with Copics after stamping with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on X-Press It Blending Card.
HAIR: Y000, YR30, E53, E34
SKIN: E50, E21, E34
BODY: BG10, BG15, BG13

STAMPS: Mermazing (My Favorite Things).
DIES: Stitched Dome Frames, Mermazing, Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics from MFT.

Now I need to get busy with some errands. Does anyone dread grocery shopping like I do? Have a great weekend!

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

There's a great new MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge that I'm playing along with using this adorable Mermazing set (from My Favorite Things) that recently came as happy mail! With two young granddaughters who both love the beach, I knew I'd get a lot of mileage out of this stamp set. I loved using MFT's Homespun Stitch Lines for the diagonal elements and can see this will be a new favorite border die set for me!

I colored the images with Copics and popped several of them with foam tape for added dimension.

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

So, this is my entry for MFT's current Wednesday Sketch Challenge!  I was planning on entering this into their birthday challenge as well and totally goofed when I added a sentiment of thanks instead of birthday greetings. Guess that means I have to create another card - lol! On a stifling hot day, that won't be hard to do.

I started with a background using 3 different patterned papers from MFT's Black and White Basics 6x6" pad...one of my favorite go-to pads! I stamped the Flowers in Bloom image twice in Memento Tuxedo Black then in Versamark so I could clear emboss the image. I colored with Zigs (the clear embossing makes it so much easier to stay in the lines).

Thanks for stopping by and stay cool everyone!         ~Wanda

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

Yup! The melons are back again and this time they are being featured on the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge! These are the last ones from my recent "smooshing" session where I applied distress oxide inks to my glass mat then spritzed with water and smooshed the ink onto watercolor paper. So fun!

Ink colors: Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio, Mowed Lawn.  At the end of smooshing the 3 green colors together, I splattered Mowed Lawn over it all.

This was a fun sketch using 3 different patterns from MFT's Black and White Basics 6x6" pad paired with white cardstock.

STAMPS: Sweet Summertime (MFT).
INK: Memento Tuxedo Black; Distress Inks (see above description).
DIES: Watermelon Slice (MFT); Stitched Rectangle STAX (MFT).

Watermelon is Served

Once again, I'm using the fun new watermelon die by MFT and the layout for the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  I'm also playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where we are challenged to use bright colors based on their mood board. I didn't have this hexagon die so had to improvise a bit and used a Stitched Basic Elements edge die to come close to the layout.

I smooshed distress ink colors (see list below) on water color paper
to create the watermelon. The sentiment is another one of 18 from Taylored Expressions Simple Strip Background stamp/die set that I white embossed on black card stock.

INK: Abandoned Coral, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Cracked Pistachio, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn - distress inks by Ranger.

PAPER: Sunkissed 6x6 pad by Doodlebug Designs.

That's all for now. It's a busy day with heading out next to the post office, then the fitness center for a half hour workout, then our grand kids' end of school year recital at the preschool at 6:30. Fun!!

Watermelon Slice

There's a fun new sketch up for the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge! I'm so in love with the new MFT watermelon dies and sweet sentiments that go with it! I experimented with smooshing Distress Oxide inks on watercolor paper. I smooshed the inks on my glass craft mat, then lightly sprayed both the mat and the cardstock with water. I splattered Mowed Lawn ink over the dried green panel to add a more textured look.

RIND: Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Cracked Pistachio, Lucky Clover.
WATERMELON: Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral.

I sponged the green inks onto the card base using my homemade stencil (different sized circles die cut on a piece of acetate). I initially created this stencil for use with bokeh effects.

STAMPS: Sweet Sentiments (MFT).
PAPER: Black and White Stripes 6x6 pad (MFT); New Leaf and True Black (PTI).
DIES: Sweet (MFT), Stitched Rectangle STAX (MFT), Watermelon Slice (MFT).

Sweet Birthday Wishes

I was so excited to see this watermelon die set and the sweet sentiments that were in the last MFT release! Years ago, I created a watermelon shaped card using circle dies, but this simplifies things so much and is so fun for summer card giving! I'm playing along with the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge. I had some really old 12x12 scrapbook papers in a mottled dark pink/red and the polka dotted green and thought it would work well for the melons.

The plaid banners are from MFT's Plaid Patterns Merry and Bright 6x6 paper pack. I was initially baffled by a small die that had a scalloped edge. After checking the card samples on the MFT blog, I realized it gave me a "bite" out of the melon option - DOH!

STAMPS: Sweet Sentiments (MFT).
INK: Versamark.
DIES: Sweet (MFT), Watermelon Slice (MFT), Stitched Fishtail Flags STAX (MFT), Stitched Sentiment Strips (MFT).
OTHER: Pure White embossing powder (Altenew).
