Paper Players

Good Sunday everyone! Hope you will find some time to play along with The Paper Players Challenge where it's sketch week and Claire has a wonderful layout for us! I knew I wanted to use the new leafy wreath image in Altenew's Weekend Doodles stamp set with matching dies. I added a floral image and used one of the sweet sentiments as well. I colored with Copics. I really wish I had layered the vertical banner with a darker green since it appears to "get lost" in the background. I was afraid to dismantle it and risk tearing the paper, so chose to leave it alone - lol!

Patterned papers were in the April card kit from Simon Says Stamp and are from the Let Your Soul Bloom collection by ModaScrap. Love all the spring colors and delicate floral prints! The shimmery green envelope was also part of the card kit.

Freshly Made Sketches

Another of my fave weekly challenges is the Freshly Made Sketches challenge! This week, Kim has a great layout for us! I started with a base of 3 different alcohol inks (Lake Blue, Sky, Ocean Green) by Brea Reese. I also added some Pinata Brass mixative which adds such pretty "veining" to the background. The circle element is a fun happy birthday die by My Favorite Things. The Stitched Blooms dies are also from MFT.

The vertical strip is Luxe Gold cardstock by Papertrey Ink. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

CAS(E) This Sketch

It's Thursday which means one of my fave challenges has a new sketch for us - CAS(E) This Sketch! I tweaked the diagonal line a bit and gave it an angle rather than a squiggle - haha!  I try to make an effort to use up extra die cuts, water color or gelli print panels, etc. when I go to start a new project.  It doesn't always happen but today I chose this really old gelli print paper which has some bluish green/gray acrylic colors on it.

The sentiment is from Flourishes' "Tulips For Friends" stamp set (company is no longer in business) and the butterfly is a die from Cheery Lynn Designs called Exotic Butterfly Med.#1. I only adhered the body and antennae since I wanted the wings to look dimensional. The stitched edge is the "Stitched Basic Elements" Die-Namics by My Favorite Things. A trio of white matte enamel dots completed this quick project.

That's it for now! Our water has been cut off for several hours so that plumbers can fix a leak under our house. I have a real admiration for anyone who has to crawl the entire length of the house in a minimal crawl space to get to the problem area!! I'm thinking black snakes...spiders...well, you get the idea!

PTI Win It Wednesday

Laurie Schmidlin's Win It Wednesday challenge on the Papertrey Ink blog is to create a favorite shaped card - anything other than an A2 card. I have always like to use the largest of Simon Says Stamp's Balloon dies for a special birthday greeting.  I cut two shapes and scored a line 1/2 inch down from the top of the bottom balloon so the card will open readily.

STAMPS: Polka Dot Parade #12 (PTI); Wet Paint (PTI).
PAPER: Bitty Big: Aqua Mist (PTI); White, Black (PTI).
INK: Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Plum Pudding, Summer Sunrise - all by PTI; Memento Tuxedo Black.
DIES: Balloons (Simon Says Stamp), Wet Paint (PTI), Polka Dot Parade #12 (PTI), Tag Sale: Quilted Die (PTI).
OTHER: Twine.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Color Throwdown #540

Hello everyone! Yours truly is hosting the Color Throwdown Challenge this week! I was inspired by these yummy lemon desserts to use yellow, orange, navy and green. These patterned papers came from the Splendid Sunshine 6x6" paper pad by Echo Park (copyright 2014), so they've been in my stash for quite some time! I decided to white emboss the floral images on Ranger watercolor paper then colored them in with Mijello Mission Gold watercolors.

STAMPS: Hatbox Florals and Build A Bunch (Reverse Confetti).
PAPER: Splendid Sunshine (Echo Park); White (PTI).
INK: Navy Blue (Reverse Confetti); Versamark.
DIES: Build A Bunch, Lacey Scallop Frame (Reverse Confetti).
OTHER: Pure White opaque embossing powder by Altenew.

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge

A quick and easy card for the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge. I went with a monochromatic baby card in pink using patterned paper from MFT's Roses All Over 6x6" pad and coordinating pink cardstock - also from MFT (it was from a sampler packet and I'm not sure of the exact name).

The scalloped rectangle base is a die from MFT's Blueprints 27 set.
Other supplies:
STAMPS: Beautiful Baby (elephant, heart, sentiment) - MFT.

DIES: Blueprints 27, Oh Baby (baby sentiment), Beautiful Baby (elephant, heart).

Time to hit the bed...thanks for stopping by!      ~Wanda

Paper Players

Happy Easter everyone! It's also our middle son's birthday, so we will host his family and have BBQ chicken and lots of other goodies to go with it! This week, Anne Marie is hosting the Paper Players Challenge and we are to create a CAS design and include some paper piecing.  I thought this fun little bird would be fun to piece with a navy/yellow color scheme!

Here's what I used...
STAMPS: The Tweet Life (bird), Toucan of Friendship (sentiment), Petals 'n Posies (flowers), Build A Bunch (leaves) - all by Reverse Confetti.
PAPER: Splendid Sunshine 6x6" pad by Echo Park; Night of Navy (SU); White (PTI).
DIES: Blueprint 27 (scalloped frame) by My Favorite Things; Petals 'n Posies, The Tweet Life, Build A Bunch, Sunburst Tag Layer, Stitched Hex Tag, Beautiful Banners - all by Reverse Confetti.

CAS(E) This Sketch

There's a retro sketch up on the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge blog and it's a great layout! I was also inspired by the photo for The Card Concept challenge - especially the pink florals and the plaid runner. I'm considering my card a CAS design this time though the watercolored layers for the 3D dies did take some time to complete.

Once again I pulled from the stash of skinny sentiments that are
mass produced by the wonderful Simple Strips BG stamp and large die that cuts all 18 different sentiments out in one pass! I used Mijello Mission Gold paints for all the florals.

STAMPS: Simple Strips Background (Taylored Expressions).
PAPER: "Licorice" Basics Pattered Paper 6x6" pad by Bazzill; Smooth White (My Favorite Things); Watercolor paper (Ranger).
INK: Memento Tuxedo Black.
DIES: Rose Flurries 3D die by Altenew; Simple Strips Background by Taylored Expressions.

Thanks so much for stopping by...

Spring Butterfly

Nothing says spring like butterflies and flowers, so the spring mood board for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge was perfect to inspire me to use this large butterfly image by PTI! I'm also playing along with Papertrey Ink's Win It Wednesday challenge where Laurie Schmidlin has challenged us to use our favorite coloring technique. I love using my Zig watercolor brushes - especially to water color tiny spaces! I stamped the butterfly multiple time using my MISTI.

STAMPS: Simple Strips Background (Taylored Expressions), Butterfly Folk (Papertrey Ink).
PAPER: Smooth White (MFT); Water Color CS (Ranger).
INK: Memento Tuxedo Black.
DIES: Butterfly Folk (PTI); Simple Strips Background (Taylored Expressions); Blueprint 27 and Stitched Fishtail Flags STAX (MFT); Pierced Frames (PTI).

Fusion Card Challenge

This warmer spring weather has got us thinking tropical thoughts on the Fusion Card Challenge blog and our inspiration photo is a beautiful ocean scene! I opted out of the sketch this time and created an alcohol ink background with Denim alcohol ink and Pinata brass mixative.

Photos just never capture the beautiful shimmer and shine of the background like you see in real life! The images were mostly all two step stamping from Papertrey Ink's Salt Air: Flora and Fauna sets that have coordinating dies.

INK: Pumice Stone, Chipped Sapphire, Barn Door Distress Oxide by Ranger; Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Green Parakeet, Simply Chartreuse by PTI.

Freshly Made Sketches

Linda has an awesome new sketch for us over on the Freshly Made Sketches blog! I was playing with a new trio of alcohol inks from Brea Reese (thank you Michaels' coupon!) this morning. The colors were all shades of blues/green: Lake Blue, Sky, Ocean Green.  I love the veining that occurs with the addition of Pinata Brass mixative and Ranger blending solution and then "moving" the colors with air.

Here's my supply list...
STAMPS: Rejoice (Simon Says Stamp).
PAPER: Glossy CS; Smooth White by My Favorite Things; Pacific Point by SU; Tropical Teal by Papertrey Ink; Gold Mirror by Altenew.
DIES: Rejoice (SSS); Blueprints 27 (MFT) - banners; Stitched Rectangle STAX (MFT).

My big news for the day is learning late last evening that this Nana has another grand baby! Ramona Kathryn arrived to our oldest son and DIL and she has an awesome big sister, Matilda, that is 2 1/2 years old!

Check out all that hair!  I can't wait to visit...hopefully in 2 weeks (they live about 3 hours away). Thanks so much for stopping by!

Color Throwdown

It's time for another Color Throwdown challenge and Vickie has some great colors for us: orange, yellow and blue!  Orange and blue are especially popular in VA after the University of VA Cavaliers won the national NCAA basketball championship last week!  Wahooah! A first for our state and a nail biting, heart wrenching down-to-the-wire last three games of the season! Since yellow was the third color, I went with a birthday theme (instead of UVA school colors) and was inspired to use alcohol inks based on the photo.

I used Ranger Denim, Dandelion and Valencia alcohol inks along with their blending solution.  The brass "veining" you see was obtained with adding Pinata Brass mixative to the mix.  The sentiment die is Lil' Inker Design's Boxed Up Birthday Greetings.

Here's another view of the tools I used. I like to "move" the ink colors around quickly with this "marker holder thingy" after I drop them onto the Yupo paper.  I don't know the proper name of this tool and have had it for a long time. When you squeeze the bulb, the forced air moves the ink around.  You can also use a straw but this method won't make you hyperventilate - lol!
