Freshly Made Sketches

Freshly Made Sketches #537 has a great layout this week and I knew I wanted to join in and use this purple background that I've had in my leftover stash for a long time. All I needed was to use some distress inks to smoosh over watercolor paper then die cut the flowers and leaves. I then splattered with White Gouache and Fossilized Amber on the flowers and Mowed Lawn on the leaves.

STAMPS: Just Sentiments: Everyday (Papertrey Ink).
PAPER: Bitty Big: Amethyst Allure, White, True Black (Papertrey Ink); Ranger watercolor paper.
INK: Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Shabby Shutters, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn distress inks; True Black (PTI).
DIES: Into the Blooms: Dahlia (Papertrey Ink); Blueprints 27, Stitched Basic Edges, Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).

Fusion Card Challenge

It's time for a new Fusion Card Challenge and I really loved playing with this one! The rainbow plates inspired me to do a rainbow theme and I also loosely used the sketch layout to create this baby card.

I combined an older baby set (Playful Patterns) with the newly released baby set (Little One) and loved the result! The rainbow, clouds and sentiment are all popped up with foam tape.

STAMPS: Playful Patterns, Little One (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Aqua Mist. Lavender Moon, Lemon Tart, Bright Buttercup (dye inks by Papertrey Ink).
PAPER: White, Lemon Tart (PTI); Flower Market 6x6" (Lawn Fawn).
DIES: On the Border: Sunburst Border, Playful Patterns, Little One (PTI).
OTHER: Moonshine sequins (PTI).

That's it for today! We'd love to have you play along with us in the challenge. Happy stamping!  ~Wanda

The Great Cover Up Challenge

Hello friends! Today, I'm paired up with Melody Rupple for this week’s Great Cover Up challenge on the Papertrey Ink blog. We are challenging you to create something with a patriotic theme and I wanted to use a new “to me” technique to create a sunburst background. It’s a great way to use up those scraps of patterned papers!

Step 1: Cut paper into 1 ½” by 6” rectangles, then cut them on the diagonal from opposite corners to form the sun “rays”.

Step 2: Start by adhering a strip in the center of the A2 size card base, then work your way outward until the background is covered. I like to leave a narrow space (about 1/8”) between each piece. Trim off the excess with a scissors or with a paper cutter.

Step 3: Next, I wanted to cover up the sunburst center by adding a trio of bunting dies from the newly released Patriot die set.

Step 4: Complete the card with a sentiment as the focal point. I chose to cut two dies (Enchanted Evening and White) and offset them slightly to make it “pop” more.

No paper or ink used on this one!

PAPER: White, Enchanted Evening, patterned paper.
DIES: Patriot, God Bless America

So...now it’s your turn. Let’s see your take on a patriotic theme using PTI products! Post your creation on the Papertrey Ink blog for a chance to win a gift card!  Happy stamping!  ~Wanda

Color Throwdown #694

Happy hump day which means it's time for another Color Throwdown challenge! Amy Rohl is hosting with the colors black, red, yellow and aqua. I knew right away I wanted to use my new Pinwheel Quilt Top dies from Concord & 9th. While I'm breaking the chain of avid quilters in my family (mother and grandmother) with fabric, I can do the next best thing and make quilt patterns with paper!

I paired the background with an older sentiment die from Concord & 9th called You've Got This. I die cut it from white and black and offset the layers slightly when I adhered them together. No stamps or ink used on this card!

PAPER: Aqua Mist, Pure Poppy, True Black, Bright Buttercup, White (Papertrey Ink).
DIES: Pinwheel Quilt Top, You've Got This (Concord & 9th).

That's it for today. We'd love to have you join us in this color challenge!   ~Wanda

Release Day at Papertrey Ink

I wanted to share one more card showing some new hyacinths and a new sentiment that are part of the May release happening today at Papertrey Ink! 10:00pm EST is the time you can order new goodies! It's another wonderful release with focus on babies, patriotism and some miscellaneous birds thrown in there.

I started with three color blocks of Bitty Big: Harvest Gold patterned papers in the background. Next layer is a Delicate Doilies die then a vase from the Vase Collection 7 is filled with new florals. I added dots of yellow Stickles to the tiny flower centers, but they are barely visible and actually look green! :-(

STAMPS: Happy Hyacinths, Just Sentiments: Lift, Vase Collection 7.
INK: Soft Stone, Weathervane, Smokey Shadow, Limeade Ice, Simply Chartreuse, Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky, Enchanted Evening.
PAPER: Bitty Big: Harvest Gold, White (Papertrey Ink).
DIES: Happy Hyacinths, Vase Collection 7, Delicate Doilies (PTI); Stitched Rectangle STAX, Blueprints 27 (My Favorite Things).

PTI May Release Day 4

Hello everyone and welcome back to the fourth and last day of reveals for the May release at Papertrey Ink! Today we are introducing you to United States of America die + Wood Plank Background stamps + Feathered Friends Mini 23 stamps and dies.

Very traditional red, white and blue using patterned paper for the background then layered with a sunburst die, the skinny star frame and the beautiful new USA die!

TIPS:
1. Layer skinny border dies with at least two layers. It makes it easier to adhere to card plus gives dimension.
2. The USA die is so easy to inlay different colors.

STAMPS: Celebrate Freedom
INK: Sapphire (Pinkfresh Studio)
PAPER: We R Memory Keepers "Yankee Doodles"; White, Pure Poppy, Brilliant Blue
DIES: United States of America, Border Bling Skinny Star
OTHER: Moonshine sequins, Oval punches, Ray of Sunshine die

My next card has a more rustic flavor with the twine, wood veneer stars, darker red and blue shades and the torn and sponged edge of the wood plank strip.

TIPS:
1. Use multiple sentiments and arrange in collage form to create a fun background.
2. Tearing and then sponging one side of the wood plank background strip adds a rustic element.
3. I cut out three of the USA dies in different colors and offset them just slightly to add interest and dimension.

STAMPS: Celebrate Freedom, Wood Plank Background
INK: Americana, Enchanted Evening
PAPER: Classic Kraft, Americana, Enchanted Evening, White
DIES: United States of America, Border Bling: Skinny Star
OTHER: Night Sky Background stencil, Blue twine, Wood veneer stars

I love pairing the new Feathered Friend Mini 23 with the USA die and the Wood Plank BG stamp.

TIPS:
1. Add a sentiment as a small tag when your card front seems full.
2. Jute twine, sponging the edges for an aged look and using darker shades of red and blue give a rustic feel to your card.

STAMPS: Feathered Friends Mini 23, Wood Plank Background
INK: Soft Stone, Weathervane, Summer Sunrise, True Black, Classic Kraft, Honey Nut, Cocoa Bean
PAPER: Text-Style: In Bloom, Classic Kraft, Americana, Enchanted Evening, Rustic Cream, Matte Metallic Silver
DIES: Feathered Friends Mini 23, United States of America, Patriot
OTHER: Jute twine

Last but not least is another card with the eagle but, this time he is at the lake! Lots of color blending on the tropical frame and then stamping of the lake scene from the recently released Scene Everywhere: At the Lake.

Once again, I added jute twine and splattered water drops over the frame area for some texture.

STAMPS: Scene Everywhere: At the Lake, Feathered Friends Mini 23
INK: Limeade Ice, New Leaf, Simply Chartreuse, Honey Nut, Classic Kraft, Cocoa Bean, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Ripe Avocado, Soft Stone, True Black, Weathervane

Hello crafty friends! Welcome back to the third day of reveals of the May release at Papertrey Ink. Today we are introducing you to Build-A-Lion stamps and dies + Patriot Dies + Celebrate Freedom stamps and dies.

First up is a really fun lion you can build in so many ways! I started with some jungle colors from a paper pack by Bo Bunny. I die cut a textured frame using the Border Bling: Tin Stitch then layered a Cocoa Bean Twig die frame over that.

I had to dig deep into my PTI archives until I found a baby sentiment that would fit.

STAMPS: Build-A-Lion, Wonderful Words: Baby
INK: Cocoa Bean, Summer Sunrise, True Black, Honey Nut, Hibiscus Burst
PAPER: Summer Sunrise, Harvest Gold, Rustic Cream, Cocoa Bean; Bo Bunny "Trail Mix"
DIES: Border Bling: Twigs, On the Border: SUnburst Border, Build-A-Lion, Wonderful Words: Baby, Border Bling: Tin Stitch
OTHER: Oval punches

My second card is one of my favorites due to the truck! My husband has restored old cars for many years and this is a great die for masculine recipients!
I cut all but the tiny "chrome" accessories and the tires from Bristol Smooth Surface paper and color blended with Pure Poppy and Scarlet Jewel. Crystal Effects were added to the windshield.

STAMPS: Celebrate Freedom
INK: Pure Poppy, Scarlet Jewel, Honey Nut
PAPER: Blue glitter card stock; White, True Black, Pure Poppy, Silver metallic
DIES: Patriot, Border Bling: Twinkle, Skinny Frames: Diagonal Border
