Color Throwdown

Hello and happy hump day!  Monika has chosen some great primary colors for the Color Throwdown Challenge! I went with a literal interpretation of the photo and used some balloon stamps and dies - inspired by this card by Dawn Woleslagle.

I hand drew the balloon strings with a gray 0.3 Copic multi liner pigment ink pen. The die cut balloons were popped with foam dots. The blue "happy" is also a die cut.  I'm going to be needing a big stash of masculine birthday cards next month, so this is a start.

For more inspiration and guidelines to play along, please visit the Color Throwdown blog...or...you can go to each of the design team blog links below:

Sweet Sunday Sketch

I had a request from my oldest son to create a wedding card for a good friend of his who is getting married this w/e. His friend has worked for a winery since college graduation, so what could be better than some grapes in the background?! I realized that out of my gazillion stamps, I couldn't find any wine glass images anywhere!  A quick trip to Michael's and I found these dimensional stickers.  I used the fun layout for the current Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge and chose to use vellum for the tilted panel to soften up the look a bit. The sentiment was clear embossed after stamping with black ink.

Stay tuned...you'll be seeing 2 more wedding card options for DS and DIL to choose from! :-)

Here's what I used...
STAMPS: DD Grapes (long retired set by SU); Poppy Birthday by Verve.
PAPER: White (PTI), Vellum CS (SU), Metallic brushed gold.
INK: Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade - SU; Versafine Onyx Black.
ACCESSORIES: Stitched rectangle dies by Lil' Inker Designs; Sweetheart Tag die by Simon Says Stamp; Gold cording by SU; Wine glass stickers by Jolee's.

Mojo Monday

Can't believe another week has rolled on by and we're ready for another Mojo Monday Challenge! I rarely create masculine cards and when I donate baskets of cards to charities, I realize I'm often leaving the men out of the loop!  So, I decided to remedy that with this week's awesome sketch!

I love the fun summertime patterned papers in the "Sunkissed" 6x6 pad by Doodlebug Designs.  I used stitched dies by Lil' Inker Designs for the circles and rectangles.  Cording is from Stampin' Up.  The stamp set I featured is called Strong Anchor by Verve.  I used two retired SU inks - Blue Bayou and Baja Breeze - which I thought blended in well with the color of the waves, then stamped the sentiment with Pumpkin Pie ink.

Flutter By, Butterflies

The SCS gallery is filling up with butterflies today for the Ways to Use It challenge! I'm using the newly released Fancy Fritillary die by Our Daily Bread Designs as the focal point.  I used yellow and orange paint on watercolor CS for the butterfly base.  The top layer was die cut from vellum.  I layered up 3 of the Layered Lacey Square dies by ODBD and popped that over a herringbone embossed Vintage Cream CS card base.  The sentiment tag is by Jen Hadfield (Pebbles). Papers are from My Mind's Eye Stella and Rose "Mabel" 6x6 pad.

It's a gorgeous May day here in Virginia!  Hope it's sunny and glorious in your part of the world as well!

Color Throwdown & SSSC

Hi, everyone! Are you ready to rock some new colors this week? Lori is our hostess with some sweet apples for our color inspiration on the Color Throwdown blog!  We are also welcoming the talented Tenia Nelson from Jazzy Paper Designs as our guest designer for the month!  She has some awesome talent going on and you may have seen her published in a number of magazines or sharing her creations via different design teams!  Welcome, Tenia!

So, here is my card, and yes...I'll admit I was stumped for awhile with these colors and had a number of failed efforts with my roses before deciding on die cutting Lemon Tart CS then stamping off the 1st step with Ripe Persimmon distress ink and stamping again with full strength ink.  I used Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint for the leaves.  I picked up yellow and orange watercolor paint with a wet brush and splattered the background by tapping the brush on a paper piercer.  I cut out 2 pink sentiments and 2 more in orange to
make it appear like chipboard.  It adds so much more dimension when you layer them up!  Some jute twine in a double figure 8 shape was tucked underneath with a large glue dot.

I used Karen Giron's layout for the current Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge.  A simple design with SO many options for interpretation!

STAMPS: Rosy Posy and Rosy Posy Step 2 - both by PTI.
ACCESSORIES: Enamel dots by Recollections, Jute twine, Stitched rectangle dies by Lil' Inker Designs, Wet Paint 'thanks' die by PTI.

Hello

Good Tuesday everyone! I had stamps on my desk from a previous project, so when I saw the Color Challenge on SCS (Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, and Melon Mambo with the dessert option to use green), I was ready to roll with the same set! I'm also using the current sketch for the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge.

I cut 2 tags from white and Tangerine Tango CS and layered up some florals from PTI's Rosy Posy and Rosy Posy Step 2 sets.  The sentiment (Wet Paint die by PTI) was cut 3 times to make it more dimensional.

What else did I use?  Stitched rectangle dies by Lil' Inker Designs, Timeless Tags 2 dies by WPlus9, Off the Grid stamp (SU), Gorgeous Grunge stamp set (SU).

Mojo Monday

It's time for the first Mojo Monday Challenge of May, so that means it's contest time and YOU have a chance to win some new Verve by joining us! Check out the awesome layout that Julee has for us!  I'm also playing along with the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge where the theme is "travel".

When I think of someone starting a new leg of their journey in life, I always go to this Verve Plain Jane verse: Jeremiah 29:11.  I paired it with the "Traveler" 6x6 papers from My Mind's Eye.  The flowers are from Verve's "Sunny Days" stamp set.

For more inspiration, check out the other mojomakers' creations by clicking on their blog links below OR you can go to the Mojo Monday blog and the first 8 thumbnails will be the mojomakers' cards.
