What Do I Do With This?

 

I'm up on the Papertrey Ink blog today with a card creation for the newest What Do I Do With This? challenge. It's no secret that my first choice with card creations is usually flowers and birds! I'm showing the newest Feathered Friends 19 die set using Nuvo Embellishment Mousse and Textured Paste Crackle - both available at PTI. 

Step 1: I used Aquamarine mousse with a Dots stencil to cover the Aqua Mist card base. I then adhered a Border Bling: Skinny Postage frame...positioning it in the lower right corner.

Step 2: Prepping the florals was done by cutting them all from Bristol Smooth Surface paper which tolerates water and other liquid mediums well. 

Step 3: I love to get varied colors by ink "smooshing" with distress inks. For the flowers and leaves, I placed 3 colors on an acrylic block or glass mat, spritzed with water, then dipped watercolor paper into the inks. I dried after each "smoosh" and built up the layers of color until I was satisfied. Not drying between times can result in muddy colors. A final splatter of Permanent White Gouache paint finished up the process.

Step 4: I cut all die parts of the bird from Bristol Smooth Surface paper and covered the main body part with aquamarine mousse. It gives a pearlized look which is a fun detail. The remaining pieces were color blended with dye inks. I added crackle paste to the wings which adds another element of texture.

Step 5: Now comes the fun part of arranging all the elements! I avoid gluing down the tips of the foliage and also added Glossy Accents to the berries to give added dimension.

Layering Stencils

This is the first time I am entering the monthly challenges held on Facebook's Share Handmade Kindness page. Heather features a technique previously recorded on YouTube by Jennifer McGuire then people create something using that technique. January's technique is layering stencils which you can watch HERE. I am also entering the Just Us Girls challenge which has a plaid theme during wild card week.

I started with a plaid stencil from The Stamp Market using Squeezed Lemonade distress ink on Bristol Smooth Surface paper. I then layered the TCW Mini Climbing Vine stencil using Prize Ribbon distress ink. I kept it simple and only layered a sentiment banner over a glitter heart that I die cut from some glitter chipboard.

Stock Your Stash + Freshly Made Sketches Challenge

Hello! I am playing along with the

current Stock Your Stash challenge at Reverse Confetti where the theme this month is "Love is in the Air". It was perfect to try out my latest items I purchased from their January release: Poppies stamp and die and the Lots of Love die. I'm also using the sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge and as you can see...I flipped it. I also used the A2 rather than square version.

I started with patterned papers from RC's From Cupid 6x6" pad and used my favorite white card base white from Papertrey Ink. This came together very quickly and I plan to get a second card  made while my supplies are out on the desk.

It's Release Day!

The day is finally here when the new products in the January release at Papertrey Ink will become available at 10pm EST! I wanted to make another card using 3 of my favorite items: Into the Blooms: Roses dies + Feathered Friends Mini 19 + Border Bling: Blooming Hearts die frame.

I had a leftover panel of Pinefeather plaid paper so that became my starting point. I have it peeking out beneath the blooming hearts border. I next layered a Love to Layer: Scalloped Circles die cut from Pinefeather paper. I smooshed distress inks onto a large acrylic block, spritzed with water then dragged the floral pieces through it to get a variation in colors. When totally dried, I splattered with water. After that dried, I splattered with Permanant White Gouache. 

I just love the beautiful sentiments in the sympathy sets released this month! So heartfelt!

Happy Wednesday everyone! They say spring is on the way in a little over 50 days, but this weather is not proving it yet - lol! PTI January Release Day 4

Hello and welcome back to the last day of reveals for the January release at Papertrey Ink. Have you been inspired by the products so far? Today we are introducing you to Scene Everywhere: Windowsill stamp set and dies.  This one has so many possibilities to get creative!

I wanted my card to be staged for the outside of a house looking into the open window with a pie just fresh out of the oven and a cup of hot coffee! I paired it with one of my favorite vase dies.

The white base layer was dry embossed with a brick pattern then highlighted with some gray ink.

PTI January Release Day 3

Hi everyone! Welcome back to day three of the January release at Papertrey Ink! Today, we are introducing you to Pattern Party stamp set and dies + Band-aid Wishes stamp set and dies.

These fun circles reminded me of a celebration, so I went with a slimline birthday card.

All of the circles were die cut and adhered to the white background layer. I added some random small florals in Amethyst Allure and used a kraft/white sentiment to match the kraft card base color.

The Band-aid Wishes set was my Featured Post assignment this month and I fell in love with these fun little bandaids! I made two cards plus a gift box that coordinated with one of them.

I wanted the band-aids to pop with color against the black and white Bitty Big papers that are a favorite of mine to use.

I used tone on tone colors of ink/paper then stamped the bandaid outline image in black. I chose this fun sentiment that makes this a non-mushy Valentine or anniversary card!

I coordinated the scallop top gift box to match the card thinking a small gift for someone who has an illness would be a thoughtful and useful gift (I used tissues, lip balm and throat lozenges to fill it up).

The matching card has a 5" square base and has the quilted tag layer raised up on a foam square to give it more dimension.
 

That little smile stamp is just the cutest!

PTI January Release Day 2

Hello and welcome to day two of reveals for the January release at Papertrey Ink! Today, we are introducing you to Frame Decor stamps and dies + Feathered Friends Mini 19 stamp set and dies + Inside Greetings: With Sympathy stamp set.

To start off the day, I'm showcasing a beautiful new frame with accessories. I began with some Bitty Big: Dark Indigo patterned papers and added a vellum layer behind the frame.

It's hard to see in the photo, but the flames were highlighted with a Clear Star Gellyroll pen by Sakura which adds sparkle.

My bird colors were totally inspired by the alcohol ink background in
shades of purple with some gold mixative. The trees have added texture by adding crackle texture paste and Nuvo glimmer paste.

The alcohol ink panel was elevated with a layer of adhesive-backed foam.
