I adhered a vellum rectangle (hard to see in photo) below the die cut sentiment using spray adhesive.  I sponged some Cool Caribbean ink on the sentiment panel before removing it from the die.  The vellum feathers were heat embossed using Stampendous' Detail White fine EP and adhered using clear Kool Tak foam adhesive squares.  I shaved a tropical gelato color and mixed the bits of color with some light modeling paste, then added it to the card base using a Tim Holtz' Bubble stencil.

Color Throwdown

 

Check out these great summery colors chosen by our hostess, Lori, for this week's Color Throwdown challenge! I had full intentions of going with florals, but once I stamped the plaid background, it seemed to call out "BABY" to me! It was perfect to finally use the diaper dies from MFT's Oh Baby Die-Namics set. 

The only way for me to get the plaid stamps to line up properly is by taking Barbara Anders' advice and adhering the cardstock to grid paper with repositionable tape (you can see her photo tutorial HERE).  I stamped in all four colors with Cool Caribbean, Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose and Kiwi Kiss inks.  The blue strip was embossed using SU's Adorning Accents border folder and I added a black rhinestone eye to the little bluebird.  I love having a generic baby card in my stash that could go for a boy or a girl!  I'm using the layout for the current Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge - with a wee bit of tweaking.

Something Simple

I'm playing along with two challenges: Arielle's Retrosketches #118 and Stacey's Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge with the theme "Something Simple".  The aster dies are from ODBD's June release and the sentiment is from the new Cherry Blossom set.

Mojo Monday

Are you ready to get your mojo started for another week? Join us for the Mojo Monday Challenge with another fabulous sketch by Verve owner - Julee!  I love this nautical set and have used it over and over for masculine cards!  I forgot to mat the yellow panel with a navy border and there was no undoing the adhesive, so I had to resign myself to the way it is.  :-( The nautical embossing folder is by Lifestyle Crafts and the stitched dies are by Lil Inker Designs.  I used Verve's nautical dies for the wheel and the anchor and popped them with foam tape.  A simple, straightforward design...hope you like it and are inspired to play along!

#1 Dad

I created this Father's Day card for the current Viva la Verve challenge which has both a sketch and a color challenge combined.  I thought it would be fun to have a shaker element for the largest circle and filled it with Avery Elle

Lemonade Blend sequins.  I tweaked the layout a bit and kept the horizontal stripe above the rectangle panel rather than below.  These papers from MME's Now and Then 6x6 pad worked perfectly!

CAS(E) This Sketch

Getting ready to head out to get a flat of strawberries, but first I had to play along with a couple of challenges. My layout is for the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge and it also has a touch of vellum on the butterfly to qualify for Wendy's Free For All Challenge on SCS.  Quick and easy graduation card needed for this weekend!

Cardabilities

Playing around with some new designer papers - Blushing Rose Collection - just released by Our Daily Bread Designs on June 1.  I used the sketch for the Cardabilities #100 Challenge.  The paper includes some sentiment designs, so I fussy cut one of them (making a mental note I need to buy the coordinating die) and popped it with foam tape. I added some foliage using ODBD Fancy Foliage dies and also created a butterfly with their 2 Step Butterflies stamps and matching die. I added clear Wink of Stella shimmer brush to the wings.  The doily was "aged" by sponging some Tea Dye distress ink on it.  I used translucent paste and a TCW Harlequin Circles stencil for the diamond pattern you see shining in the background.  The top edge die is from PTI.
