Hello everyone! It's my turn to host the Color Throwdown Challenge and I'm hoping you will love the colors - red, green, black, white - as much as I do! The watermelon cake inspired me to take a literal spin on the photo and go with these fun watermelon slice dies by My Favorite Things! I'm also finally inking up this All Lined Up background stamp which adds a ginghamy (how's that for a new word?!) feel which pairs nicely with a watermelon picnic!
I wanted a mottled, realistic look to my watermelon slices so started with watercolor paper by Ranger. I smooshed 3 distress oxide colors (Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple, Barn Door) on my glass work mat, spritzed with water then picked up the colors using a wet brush. The rind was created by brushing Mowed Lawn distress oxide ink stripes over Sour Apple cardstock (MFT). I used Granny Apple Green ink by SU for the background stamp and was disappointed that it shows up like a darker Wild Wasabi or Garden Green shade. Very disappointed that I spent money on this ink that isn't true to the package color!
STAMPS: All Lined Up Background, Sweet Sentiments (MFT).
PAPER: Sweet Tooth, Sour Apple (MFT); True Black (PTI); Ranger watercolor CS.
DIES: Watermelon Slice, Stitched Basic Edges, Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics by MFT.
We'd love to have you play along with us! For more inspiration, you can check out the great projects by our design team:

This is so fun, Wanda...your watermelons look real, and your plaid is amazing! I am surprised that your Granny Apple Green isn't true to the package....maybe you should contact your demo and get a replacement. Mine is a wee bit darker than the label, but it's still pretty bright!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, Wanda! I love the slices of watermelon! I am waiting for that background to come back in stock, too! Fantastic card!
