Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness

Thanks to the coordination efforts of Tenia Nelson and Veronica Zalis, papercrafters have come together to bring awareness to autism by participating in a special Light It Up Blue blog hop.  Over 200 participants will all be creating something in blue!  There are MANY great prizes being donated by some fabulous stamping companies and individuals, so you'll want to hop along and comment for a chance to win!  Be sure to start at THIS BLOG POST so you don't miss anything AND you can see a list of all the fabulous sponsors!

I will also be offering blog candy to one of my blog commenters.
A 6x6 Craft It Flora paper pad by Recollections, Gold Color Shine, Baker's twine and Mini clothespins that match the paper.  Deadline for commenting for this will be Sunday, April 4, at 11:59 PM EST.  I will do a random draw and post the winner on Monday morning!

I loved this sentiment from Reverse Confetti's Fabulous Flamingo set and thought it would be fitting to create a unique flamingo in blue!  As a rehabilitation nurse, I have worked with many autistic students in our facility whose goal is to get them equipped with good work habits then trained and eventually placed into a job in their home community.  Yes, it can be challenging in the dorm setting when their social skills don't always make it easy for them to mesh well with others.  However, their giftedness with art, remembering trivia, creating their own video games and web sites, etc. never ceases to amaze me!  We've learned in Student Health to be flexible and work with them on their medication times...knowing they are often resistant to change. Bottom line is that a person on the autism spectrum can be a unique and wonderful personality in a pink flamingo world!

Thanks again, Tenia and Veronica, for organizing this memorable event! Hugs to both of you for being open and sharing your personal link to autism!

  25. I was delighted to find this blog hop in aid of Autism as our 8yo son has low spectrum autism. He is a wonderful boy, much loved by many. Your card is brilliant because the sentiment is so true that I am going to keep on saying it to our son! He strives to be perfect, a common sign of autism, and we tell him perfection isn't important. Wow, this card is fun, colourful and soooooo deep in it's meaning! Thank you and all the sponsors for supporting this cause.
