The Paper Players

This week it's a sketch challenge over on The Paper Players challenge blog. I knew right away I wanted to use the berries stencil set from Papertrey Ink for the background. A simple strip of vellum with a gold embossed sentiment (from the PTI June release set called Vintage Postage) made this so quick and easy!

The frame is another favorite of mine - Skinny Frames: Diagonal Border - and is also from Papertrey Ink.

INK: Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Limeade Ice, New Leaf, Honey Nut (dye inks by Papertrey Ink); Versamark.
OTHER: Queen's Gold embossing powder by Ranger.

Thanks so much for stopping by...it's another hot one in VA with temps to go up to 90! Perfect weather to stay in the AC and stamp!  ~Wanda

Color Throwdown #699

Happy hump day crafty friends! It's time for another Color Throwdown challenge. Vickie is hosting with a color palette of blue, purple and white. I went with a very CAS design for my sample. I couldn't find the right shades of blue and purple card stock in my stash to suit me, so I simply colored with Mermaid Lagoon and Wilted Violet distress inks over Bristol Smooth Surface paper.

The butterfly die is an old standby called Exotic Butterfly med. #1 by Cheery Lynn Designs. The embossed background panel is a folder from Sizzix. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Lush Bloom set.

The four squares were die cut from the smallest square die in the recently released Penciled Outlines set from Papertrey Ink. I rounded off half of the corners using the 1/2" setting on my corner chomper.

That's it for today. We'd love to have you join us in this challenge!  ~Wanda

Everyday Purse

Hello crafty friends! I finally had a chance to create a second purse from the stamp and die set collaboration between Becky Roberts and Concord & 9th. I made one with my granddaughter prior to our vacation but I wanted to try another one. It went so much quicker this time and really is an easy 3D project to complete! I watched two YouTube videos which were quite helpful. The first one is by Becky Roberts - the creator of this set - and you can watch it HERE. Another very helpful tutorial is by Carrie Rhoades that you can see HERE.

The houndstooth patterned paper is a sturdier weight (12" x 12" - source unknown). I wouldn't recommend a thin paper for this. The stitching on the "leather" details doesn't show up in the photos. Aren't those dangling accessories (the charm and the tassel) just the cutest?! I discovered the best closure, in my opinion, and that is the tiny disc magnets available through The Greetery. They are not a strong magnet which makes it easy to open and close the purse without tearing it apart. Just remember to use both a positive and negative side with each closure.

STAMPS: Everyday Purse (Concord & 9th).
PAPER: Black, Raspberry Fizz, White (Papertrey Ink); patterned paper unknown; Metallic silver.
DIES: Everyday Purse (Concord & 9th).

These purses are perfect to hold gift cards, money, candy, jewelry, and many more options. Try it...you'll like it!   ~Wanda

By the Sea

Hello friends! I am back from a week's vacation at Corolla, NC so it was only natural that I join a couple of seaside-themed challenges! The Card Concept has a By the Sea challenge and then Seize the Birthday has one that is themed "Summer Activities". Collecting shells was one of many activities happening last week!

I am calling my design style "Freestyle Collage" for The Card Concept challenge #178. These summer shell dies were released last summer at Papertrey Ink and are a favorite of mine. After die cutting the shells, I sponged soft colors onto Bristol Smooth Surface paper using sponge daubers. The background was created using the two step Pool Water Stencil set just released by Papertrey Ink.

STAMPS: Just Sentiments: To & From Essentials (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Limeade Ice, Spring Rain, Aqua Mist, Sweet Blush, Mint Julep, Fine Linen, Lemon Tart, Harvest Gold (dye inks by PTI).
PAPER: Bristol Smooth Surface; White.
DIES: Summer Shells, Shape Shifters: Oval 2 (PTI); Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-Namics (My Favorite Things).
OTHER: Seam binding, Polka dot tulle ribbon.

That's it for today. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!
Happy stamping!

Fusion Card Challenge

It's time again for a new Fusion Card Challenge and I hope you will find time to play along! I was inspired by the color palette and the red rose and decided to forego the sketch this time.

I colored the image with Copics after stamping with Memento Tuxedo Black on Bristol Smooth Surface paper. The strips and circles were cut with dies from the Master Layouts 08 die set from Gina K. Designs.

STAMPS: Thank You Florals (Papertrey Ink).
PAPER: Dark Indigo, Pure Poppy, Soft Stone, Blueberry Sky (PTI).

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope to see you in the Fusion gallery.  ~Wanda

Release Day at Papertrey Ink

Happy Wednesday! It's also happy release day with the new goodies from Papertrey Ink! The design team is doing something new today by having an Instagram blog hop. Every designer's post will be awarding some lucky commenter a $10 gift card. FYI: I will post some info about my card here since I haven't mastered scheduling IG posts ahead of time. I'm on vacation this week and will need to copy and paste the info from my blog to my IG post. 😕 Look for me at @cullenwr.

I used the Graceful Butterflies stamp/die set along with the Border Bling: Lotty Dotty dies. I color blended the "dotty" panel using a light touch of Aqua Mist and Limeade Ice inks. I then layered it over a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel of Vintage Jadeite card stock. Strips were cut from Hawaiian Shores, Vintage Jadeite and White paper.

STAMPS: Graceful Butterflies (PTI).
INK: Bright Buttercup, Vintage Jadeite, Lovely Lady.
PAPER: Hawaiian Shores, Vintage Jadeite, White.
DIES: Border Bling: Lotty Dotty, Love to Layer: Scalloped Circles, Graceful Butterflies, On the Border Leaves.

Color Throwdown #698

Hi everyone! Welcome back for another Color Throwdown challenge. This week, Lynn is hosting with the happy colors of red, pink, yellow and green! These were perfect to play once again with the garden tool stamps and dies from The Greetery.

I started by stamping a base panel using the Seed Catalog Background stamp in Bright Buttercup ink. I then angled a white die cut rectangle using the Postal Frames die. I popped up the fun sentiment with foam tape.

These garden tools are so much fun and very easy to use both the stencils and stamps together. Betsy always includes a great guide to assist with the stamp and stencil placement. My daughter is an avid gardener and I see lots of cards in her future using this new set!

STAMPS: Seed Catalog Background, In Spades (The Greetery).
PAPER: White, Weathervane, Soft Stone (Papertrey Ink).
INK: Bright Buttercup, True Black, Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, New Leaf, Ripe Avocado, Weathervane, Pure Poppy (dye inks by PTI).
DIES: Garden Gear: Tools, Crimped Circles, Postal Frames (The Greetery).

That's all for today. Hope to see your entry in the throwdown gallery! Happy stamping!   ~Wanda

PTI June Reveal Day #4

Hello stamping friends! It's the fourth and last day of reveals for the June release at Papertrey Ink. We are introducing you to Feathered Friends Mini 24 stamps and dies. You will love this wonderful parrot!

I started by lightly color blending the base panel with Limeade Ice and Aqua Mist inks. I layered up two of the postage frames making it more dimensional and easier to handle.

The sentiment is from the Floating By set. Florals and leaves were also color blended with at least two different ink colors on each. TIP: It's easier to assemble the bird's parts if you begin with the largest area first.

STAMPS: Feathered Friends Mini 24, Floating By, Feathered Friends Mini 8 (branch)
INK: True Black, Soft Stone, Fine Linen, Pure Poppy, Dark Chocolate, Ocean Tides, Limeade Ice, Simplyu Chartreuse, Bright Buttercup, Summer Surise, Scarlet Jewel, Hawaiian Shores, Tropical Teal, Aqua Mist
PAPER: White, Bristol Smooth Surface
DIES: Feathered Friends Mini 24, Feathered Friends Mini 8, Gloating By, Into the Blooms, Border Bling: Skinny Postage, Border Bling: Tin Stitch, Feathered Friends 24

My second card took cues with the parrot's colors from the panel of stenciled berries and branches.

I angled two of the panels to add visual interest and popped up several of the flowers to give more dimension.

STAMPS: Feathered Friends Mini 24, Feathered Friends Mini 22 (branch), Posies & Sprigs
INK: Limeade Ice, Simply Chartreuse, Sweet Blush, Pale Peony, Berry Sorbet, True Black, Lemon Tart, Honey Nut, Pure Poppy, Fine Linen, Soft Stone, Hawaiian Shores, Tropical Teal, Summer Sunrise, Bright Buttercup
PAPER: Bristol Smooth Surface, White, Limeade Ice
DIES: Feathered Friends Mini 24, Floating By, Feathered Friends Mini 22, Posies & Sprigs, Lotty Dotty, Border Bling: Skinny Postage
OTHER: Berry Branches stencil, Raindrops

PTI June Reveal Day #3

Welcome back to day #3 of reveals for the June release at Papertrey Ink. Today we are introducing you to Floating By stamps and dies + Floating By: Sentiments stamps set + Pool Water Stencils + Border Bling: Lotty Dotty dies. I have two cards using these fun summer time goodies!

The water background stencil is two steps using two different stencils. I used Tumbled Glass and Broken China distress inks.

The "floats" have multiple stamping steps which creates such fun results! I love that the sentiments in this set all can be die cut so they don't cover up as much of the background.

STAMPS: Floating by, Floating By: Sentiments
INK: True Black, Limeade Ice, Simply Chartreuse, Lemon Tart, Bright Buttercup, Harvest Gold, Spring Moss, Honey Nut; Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Carved Pumpkin, Crackling Campfire, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Worn Lipstick distress inks by Ranger
PAPER: White, Bristol Smooth Surface
DIES: Love to Layer: Notched, Floating By
OTHER: Black twine

My second card is a bit simpler in design. I combined alcohol inks as the background to the Lotty Dotty die and combined Brusho colours as the background to the pineapple.

The pineapple was also die cut from some water color paper colored with Brushos.

STAMPS: Floating By
INK: True Black, Bright Buttercup, Harvest Gold, Honey Nut, Pinefeather; Alcohol inks; Brusho colours (Sea Green & Turquoise)
PAPER: Yupo; Watercolor (Ranger); White
DIES: FLoating By, Lotty Dotty
